Here at Douglas R. Roth, D.D.S., we are committed to providing our patients with treatment options to meet their individual needs. We are proud to offer root canal therapy.
Root canal therapy is a viable alternative to tooth removal and can save your natural teeth. At the center of your tooth is a collection of blood vessels and nerves known as pulp tissue. Irritation to the pulp can be caused by trauma, chips, cracks, decay, or aggressive and repeated dental procedures. To treat the painful symptoms, your dentist may recommend a non-surgical treatment to remove the injured pulp.
The therapy is usually performed under a local anesthetic and completed in one visit. The pulp is completely removed, and the root canal area is thoroughly cleaned and sealed with a gutta-percha material. The success rate is eighty-five to ninety percent for these teeth.
Generally, this treatment is much less expensive than removal or replacement with artificial teeth but can vary depending upon the tooth that is affected and the extent of the damage. Most often a buildup and a crown will be required after root canal therapy.
If you are experiencing tooth pain, think you might be a candidate for root canal therapy, or have questions about this procedure please give us a call at (408) 978-2060.
